Funny Cat Thursday!

I've decided that, because I'm constantly too busy to post a funny cat video on Wednesdays, I guess it's just got to be 'Funny Cat Thursday'!

My parents shared this gem today on Facebook, so I decided to share it with you guys!

Heartwarming Cat Video Friday!

Here's a couple of cute cat videos I found on Youtube. One's about how some cats react to members of the family coming home for the first time in a while, and the other is about the first meeting between two cats. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Funny Cat Video Wednesday!

It's technically Thursday, but I've been so busy lately and Wednesday is usually so busy. Here's this week's funny cat video!

Funny Cat Video Wednesday – On a Thursday haha

So, I've been thinking – I love cats and one of my favourite things to do is look up good cat videos when I can't seem to get myself to do anything else. Somehow, after watching a few good videos, I feel that I'm able to get all those "to do"s done. And because of that, I want to start sharing some of the funny cat videos I find here on my blog. The scheduling would probably be Monday – Wednesday – Friday, but today's Thursday. I've been too busy to get this started on the right day, lol. But I want to put smiles on people's faces, so here you go!

(I graduate at the end of the month! Woo hoo!)

Fluffie Selfie

Today, after my mother and I came home from grocery shopping, the power went out twice, despite the fact that we weren't being bombarded by a violent storm, and the wind hasn't been all that terrible.

I guess we were using too much electricity and it popped the meter's breaker. It's hot, muggy, so we had the air conditioner on so we could cook hamburger on the stove and sausages in the oven, and we had a few lights on, Mom and me were watching TV, I'm charging my computer, the clothes dryer was on, and we had a couple window-fans on for circulation. It was too much, I guess, since the house we're in was built before 1979 or something.

I went out and took down the power meter number and our address (since we're renting and we have a P.O. Box, so we have no idea what our renting address is), and Fluffie followed me out to the road. I managed a selfie after I was done writing down the information.

Not my best picture - I'm usually pretty photophobic. But this is the first time I've managed to take a selfie with Fluffie, and she was all too happy to oblige.

Cats & Flowers

Today, I went out and braved the heat because my little darling, Marcelle, has been noticeably losing weight. She's the runt out of all our outdoor kitties and I guess she wasn't getting as much as the others. So, I went out, found her, and gave her some food away from the others so she could relax and eat. Boy, she sure enjoyed it! I must remember to do this every day so that she bulks up enough before winter. She needs to be able to butt in and get the food herself when I'm away at college.

While I was out there, watching her eat, I noticed how beautiful it was outside, so I decided to take some pictures. I wanted to share them with you guys :3

My marigolds. They're finally blooming, and hopefully are doing their job of warding away mosquitos. I got them in three colours because I wanted the gradient. I'm so glad they held the colour! I thought they were a random coloured breed of marigold, like the mini pansies I grew last year.

My outdoor cat, Marcelle. She loves to pose for pictures - every time I start snapping, I can hardly find the will to stop! Such a sweetheart. She's the cat I wish I could bring inside, because I would not want to lose such a sweet personality to something "normal" in nature - such as an eagle, hawk, or owl. The house we're about to move into doesn't have enough room for her, but I would like to think that when I have my own place I will bring her inside.

My brother's cat, Fluffie (yes, it's spelt with an 'IE'). By far the third most snuggly cat out of the outdoor bunch. Hardly ever does she look into the camera, lol.

My brother's cat, Flumpy. She's the second most snuggly cat out of the outdoor bunch, since she almost always makes a bee-line to me when she sees me. She's also the only long-haired kitten that came out of both litters that graced us last summer, and we have no idea why. That long fur is super silky soft, though.

It was the perfect day for taking pictures. I think those marigolds were working and doing their job since I wasn't bit while I was outside ^^

I'm going to miss these kitties while I'm at college. I really need to start taking pictures of these guys so I can put them in a photo album. I want to be able to look at them whenever I can. But I'm sure going to miss touching them and talking to them :'(

Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. Vicki Myron with Bret Witter. 2008. Pages: 224. [Source: I borrowed it from the library]

Now, I read this one before I went and read The Rings of Time, but it wasn't until now that I realised that it wouldn't be all that bad if I reviewed this one. I mean, its about a cat! A lovable, adorable, personable cat! When I saw someone on a blog was going to read it, I knew I had to go and find a copy. I had relatively given up finding it (actually, it was more like I had forgotten about it), but then I found it when I was looking for books about ducks, which my brother needed for a project. It was in the section filled with non-fiction books about cats.

I read the reviews on the back-side of the jacket, and I knew that the ending was going to be sad, but I borrowed it anyway.

The story of Dewey starts out on a cold winter's morning in 1988. Vicki, the author, heard something in the book drop in the staff room and went to investigate. And there she found a tiny, orange and white kitten, buried under a pile of books. After Vicki pulled him from that cold, metal box, she let him soak up her warmth, and then she let him meet the rest of the staff. After that meeting, Dewey fell in love with everyone and became one of the most people-loving cats I have have heard or read about.

I love cats. I love cats so much and everyone knows it. I have three cats to my name - Pebbles, Domino, and Marcelle - my Nintendo Network ID is 'CatCrazyAuthor', and next spring I plan to start a cat-exclusive kennel for northern- and central-Alberta. So, when I read about Dewey, I instantly connect to him and fell in love with him. It made me wonder why I had never heard about him - he died in 2006, when I was 11 years old. I love cats so much, have all my life (I grew up with one named Muffy until I was 9. She ran away one morning and I never saw her again).

According to this lovely memoir to a lovely cat, he got quite famous. So why had never heard of him before I read this book? I'll have to ask about it.

Some people in the small town of Spencer, Iowa (small? Spencer had 10,000 people during Dewey's lifetime. Does that mean that my hometown is small too? We only have 8,000 or something residents), had a problem with Dewey being in the library, which I find rediculous. I don't know why some people don't cats. It's a mystery that will never be discovered I guess. People worried if he would pose as an allergy problem to some. Dewey loved boxes, etc. You'd have to read the book in order to learn everything about the 'Dewkster' (or 'Dewey Deedamore Booksa' - I think. I may be wrong).

Throughout the book there are chapters about Vicki and how she came to be the head librarian at the Spencer Library. I kind of found it strange since the book was supposed to be about Dewey, but helped to explain how much Dewey meant to Vicki and how much Dewey saw Vicki as 'Mommy'.

I'd give this book the rating of 'A Good Uplifting Read For Someone Who Needs a Good Pick-Me-Up'. Make sure you are alone when you read the ending, though, if you don't want someone to overhear you crying, lol. My mother asked me why my eyes were glassy and red-rimmed when I emerged from my room to find and cuddle my cat after I was done.

I don't like crying because it makes my face blotchy and my head ache, but Dewey's story was worth it. I don't think I've cried over something in a book since I read the beginning of the first Mandy story, but oh well.
